Integration of Biofuel and Fossil fuel for Automotive Industries in Thailand

                With recent energy crisis, biofuel have been a target for exploration among many oil-importing countries like Thailand.  With a bless from mother nature, Thailand is fortunate to have many potential feedstock for bio-fuel as renewable energy resource.  However, integration of biofuel and fossil fuel for automotive industries is a must for sustainable development of bio-fuel industry.  Proper adaptation of biofuel to existing fossil fuel infrastructure and current vehicle technology requires technical understanding of oil processing and engine technology.  The presentation will cover economy and energy situation in Thailand to highlight the rationale for biofuel development.  With clear governmental strategic plan on renewable energy, biofuel can be successfully integrated into national energy matrix.  With a focus on biodiesel, domestic specification of biodiesel quality is discussed with reference to harmonization attempts in the region and around the world.  To improve oxidation stability of biodiesel to diesel fuel level, partial hydrogenation is suggested to be incorporated into existing fossil fuel refinery.
